Chatham County, Georgia
The Youth Futures Initiative is a collaborative effort
between cities and the state government that addresses issues relevant to
youth and families in Chatham County, Georgia. Its primary purpose remains
to realize a vision for the county that ensures every childs health,
safety, and education, and helps them to become economically self-sustaining
citizens. The Olympic Legacy Package provides new parks and
open space, improve and builds cultural and historical facilities, builds
community centers and encourages economic development. The program uses a
community-based process to select and fund projects based on citizens
needs. The Chatham County Youth Commission promotes youth
leadership through an innovative program that involves youth in the decision
making of their community. Some 45 Youth Commissioners experience leadership
through training and annual meetings with local, state, and national leaders.
