Bozeman, Montana
The Affordable Housing Land Trust is a coordinated and
collaborative project that has overcome major obstacles and received national
recognition for providing housing for at-risk populations. Single-family homes,
apartment buildings, a Head Start Center, and a playground and park now make
up an affordable neighborhood in Bozeman, Montana. Downtown Partnerships
was created to redevelop Bozeman's well loved downtown through wide community
involvement. Projects of the partnership include elementary students championing
the rebuilding of the old Opera House arch and a $12 million project to clean
up a brownfield site for a public library. The project will ultimately preserve
historic buildings and create an aesthetic and safe community. Many local
organizations donate their time and energy to create programs and facilities
with and for area youth. The most significant project, which included the
building of a skate park, was identified and co-led by youth with community
members.
