Buffalo-Niagara Region, New York
The Materials Reuse Project was created as a result of
a parents frustration with the lack of basic classroom supplies available
to students in the Buffalo-Niagara, New York region. The Project arranges
for the direct donation of surplus supplies from businesses for classroom
and community use, and has placed an excess of $2.5 million of material supplies
thus far. Regionalism projects were created as a collaborative effort to strengthen
urban centers and restore shared community across social, political, and geographical
boundaries. The efforts include a Conference on Regionalism, which brings
together regionalism scholars and over 500 community participants, and a Region-Wide
Conversation with inter-religious visits and discussions to foster understanding
among urban and suburban residents. Computers for Children, Inc.
is a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing learning opportunities
for schoolchildren by increasing their access to computers and information
technology. The program works to rebuild used computers to the level necessary
to run current software.
