The Partnership for Higher Education Opportunity provides higher education opportunities to the youth in South Texas equal to that of the rest of the state. In its tenth year, over 75 percent of graduates were the first generation in their families to earn a degree. Dramatically changing the quality of life in Brownsville, Texas, the Southmost Community Center supports a police-community network that empowers citizens to join with the police in being proactive toward crime. Citizen involvement has helped to reduce and prevent crime in the area. Brownsville READS! promotes research-based reading instruction in the public and private schools of Brownsville. The program ensures all children have the resources to read well during and after their school career.
