Hammond, Indiana
The State Line Project was developed out of the high incidence of
perpetrators who would cross the state line to avoid criminal prosecution,
in response the community formed collaborative partnerships with other communities
to insure that these individuals would be caught. The Caldwell School Reform
project was formed in response to a poor performance assessment of the school,
after which the staff committed themselves to turning things around, fundamentally
changing their program, focusing both on improving student achievement and
their own teaching skills, instituting a Bilingual Education Program, and
creating a training ground for others in Hammond and surrounding communities.
Investing in Youth: investments for enrichment and as preventive measures
against future problems strives to reduce barriers of income to establish
quality educational and recreational opportunities and to increase the accessibility
via strategic location of opportunities and improved transportation.
