Tempe, Arizona
Set adjacent to Tempe's historic Downtown Mill Avenue and Arizona State University,
the Rio Salado Project embodies a unique vision for the future of the
region. The master plan includes a two-mile urban lake, 72-acre linear park
system, a boathouse and marina, natural habitat preserves, paths, picnic and
event areas, numerous restaurants, retail shops, office space, and housing.
The residents of Riverside/Sunset neighborhood, one with increasing
crime, low home ownership, poverty, and lack of neighborhood services, voiced
their concerns and are making significant changes. The Tempe Community Council
has partnered with Tumbleweed Youth Services and the First Congregational
Church to establish a day resource center in the heart of Tempe's downtown
for homeless youth.
