Killeen, Texas

Killeen's "Seniors Count" project protects and enhances the social, economic and physical well-being of the community's older citizens. Seniors Count includes financial assistance with transportation and utilities, computer training designed for seniors, a reading program for Alzheimer patients and a bookmobile program for more alert patients at Killeen nursing homes. The "Veterans Cemetery Project" was developed when the community realized that there was a compelling need for a veteran's cemetery to be located in Central Texas, as a number of military retirees and veterans choosing to live in the area were growmg rapidly. The City of Killeen's Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) promotes leadership and provides service opportunities for youth to serve as volunteers in their local community, schools and city government.
