Greater Racine Area, Wisconsin
The Racine Area Intergovernmental Sanitary Sewer Service, Revenue Sharing,
Cooperation and Settlement Agreement will provide the city $74 million
in revenue from the outlying communities over 30 years to help redevelop run-down
areas of the city. It established a use-based formula for funding $80 million
in improvements to the city's wastewater treatment plant; earmarks funds to
support the city's zoo, fine arts museum and library; and ensures city support
for surrounding towns should they choose to incorporate. The West Sixth
Street Revitalization effort consists of citizens, local businesses, and
elected and community leaders who are rebuilding the city house by house.
Racine County Youth as Resources (YAR) is a grant-giving program that
funds youth-designed youth-led community service projects. To address a need
in their community, youth propose service projects such as a neighborhood
cleanup, educational programs for children or meals for elderly.
