GROUP TO SPEAK ON CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM

National Civic League Sponsors Forum: "Making The Link"

DENVER - December 3, 2001 - On Saturday, December 8th, the National Civic League will host "Making The Link: Civil Rights and Campaign Finance Reform", an educational forum focusing on the interrelated issues of civil rights and campaign finance reform. During the forum, the National Civic League and other prominent organizations within Denver's community, will encourage open discussions focusing on the need to expand citizens' knowledge regarding campaign finance reform and how it relates to Denver's diverse community.

Stephanie Wilson, the director of the Fannie Lou Hamer Project, will deliver a keynote address connecting the history of earlier voting and civil rights struggles to the ongoing struggle for campaign finance reform. The Fannie Lou Hamer Project is a national non-profit that works with traditional civil rights organizations and communities of color to engage in campaign finance reform initiatives.

Complementing Wilson's address, an open-panel discussion featuring representatives from the Denver NAACP, Colorado Common Cause and other community activists, will address the importance of campaign finance reform and how it affects different aspects of the community.

"Making The Link" will be held at Shorter AME church, 3100 Richard Allen Court in Denver. The event runs from 10am to noon on Saturday, December 8th with refreshments beginning at 9:30am. The event is free.
