Karen Labat
Project Director, Federal-Community Partnerships
Karen Labat is the Federal-Community Partnerships Project Director for the
Safe Start and Safe Kids programs. In this capacity, Karen has overall management
responsibility to insure training and technical assistance is provided to
both programs, to serve as a liaison on behalf of NCL with funding agencies,
local grantees, program providers and evaluators, and to build sustainable
relationships with other local, regional and national organizations.
Since 1989, Karen's leadership responsibilities entailed supporting the development
of strong communities. As an Associate Director with the Governor's Commission
on Economic Development Office in Nevada, she served as an effective and valued
community and business resource liaison to corporations relocating to Nevada.
Later, as Executive Director of the Nevada Commission for National and Community
Service, she was responsible for developing AmeriCorps programs throughout
the state that enhanced community collaborative and project success in the
areas of education, public safety and human services to under served populations
throughout the state. Most recently, as the Central United States Regional
Projects and Training Director for AmeriCorps NCCC, she demonstrated success
in community partnerships, program development, resource capacity building,
volunteer/project management and implementation with a significant network
of diverse community leaders, private non profit and public organizations.
Her commitment to sustainable community collaborative was demonstrated through
a 50% increase in human service projects benefiting under served children
and families throughout the Central United States.
Karen earned her MA from the University of Phoenix in Organizational Management,
completed graduate courses in Public Administration from the University of
Nevada, and received a BA in Political Science and Criminal Justice from the
University of Southern Mississippi.
