Betty Jane Narver
Betty Jane Narver, long-time member of the National Civic Leagues Board
of Directors and special part of the NCL family, passed away on Sunday, December
9, 2001. Betty Jane was also the chair of the Model City Charter Revision
Project and had just led the second meeting of the revision committee in Atlanta
on the preceding Friday. The manner in which Betty Jane ran that last meeting
validated why she was originally selected to lead the revision process. She
was knowledgeable about city charters and most importantly, a skilled consensus
builder who ensured an even playing field for every participant, regardless
of their perspective. Her sudden passing comes as a shock to everyone who
knew her.
Betty Jane Narver will be remembered as a caring board member who always
stepped up whenever we needed someone to do so. Most of all, she was a dedicated
friend and a person whom we will dearly miss.
